Family Business Atlantic Celebrates Innovation and Entrepreneurism at our 2022 Annual Awards Event

April 27, 2022

For Immediate Release:

For Immediate Release: Family Business Atlantic is honored to recognize the accomplishments of three exemplary entrepreneurs at this year’s Awards of Excellence celebrations held last week in Dartmouth.

FBA President, Mark Peapell, opened the ceremony by acknowledging the Association’s 25th anniversary and congratulating the three award recipients. “We have been hosting this awards ceremony for 15 years and it is an event that is dear to our hearts because it provides us with an opportunity to celebrate so many entrepreneurs, family businesses, and to share the success of our accomplished members.”

FBA’s Presenting sponsors, Colleen Ritchie representing the Women Entrepreneurship Knowledge Hub presented the Advisor of the Year Award to Dr. Margie Humphreys of Watermark Partners, and Mark Peapell presented the Family Business of the Year Award on behalf of MNP LLP to Peter Blunden of East Coast Laundry Systems. Supporting Sponsor, Dr. Albert James from Dalhousie’s Centre for Family Business and Regional Prosperity presented the Long-Standing Business Award to Colleen O’Toole of Lighthouse Transportation.

All three companies felt honored to be acknowledged and conveyed their deepest appreciation for this recognition. “FBA members and business owners face many of the same problems, whether it is financing, HR, or operational issues.  But when you have the added complexity of family dynamics it often feels overwhelming and isolating,” said Colleen O’Toole. “You think no one else could possibly image what it feels like to promote one child over another or not wanting to take on too much financial risk because this will not only affect you – but your grandchildren as well.  It may feel lonely at the top when making these decisions, but with the help of FBA, family businesses do not have to do it alone.”
