Alan Streatch is a 2nd generation family business entrepreneur. Alan grew up working in a dairy, poultry and hog farm owned by his father, James and brother, Ken. He developed a strong work ethic working alongside the family and other employees on the farm, in his pre-university years.
Alan acquired his B.Comm at Dalhousie University in 1975 and continued his education in business as he worked with HR Doane Chartered Accountants after graduation. Alan married Catherine MacKeen, his soul mate from Dalhousie and returned to the family business in 1977. Cathy and Alan among many other accomplishments raised 2 sons and 2 daughters who all graduated from Dalhousie, before furthering their educations and life skills.
Alan worked with family to develop a number of agriculture related businesses since 1978 when Musquodoboit Valley Quality Sod was started. Turf Masters Landscaping was acquired in 1988 and New Brunswick Quality Turf was started in 1990. Sunberry Cranberry Producers Inc was added to the family operations in 1997 and Blomidon Nurseries Limited was purchased in 2000. Alan is the President and CEO of Granview Farms Limited (sod and landscape product supply) and Turf Masters Landscaping Limited. His skill sets continue to be utilized as required in Sunberry and Blomidon as well as recently acting on the Board of AMCI and ACCI 2 cranberry related businesses in NB.
Outside of business and family, Alan has contributed time and energy to the life of the Saint Andrews United Church through committee and music. He was involved in farm commodity organizations in Dairy, Landscape and Poultry as well as the local and provincial Federation of Agriculture where he sat on the Council of Leaders for a 3 year term. He was an active 10 year member of the Meagher’s Grant Volunteer Fire Department during that period. Alan was a long-term executive member of Landscape Atlantic and Landscape NS and sat on the Board of Directors for the Canadian Nursery Landscape Association for a 2 year term. More recently Alan has actively engaged in Board, committee and executive positions with Family Business Atlantic and has accepted the 2 year term as President of that family business organization.
